About

The Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Book Club reads non-fictions books from a diverse range of authors and meets in a safe and inclusive space to discuss them. Anyone is welcome.

To Any and All

"As you make your way, please give as much thought to the person you will become as to the vocation you will pursue. Money in the end means very little. Acts of compassion and loving kindness resonate through eternity."

- Wade Davis, A Message to a Daughter from Beneath the Surface of Things

I am having difficulty describing the book club in a single compact sentence, so forgive my attempt to do so. Instead I present this letter addressed to any and all who want to know what we are about.

I read books because each book I read makes me a better person. Books teach me compassion, by revealing perspectives I could not conceive on my own, and how to navigate more easily in a world that borders on the absurd.

Although I read plenty on my own, the book club gives me a safe and inclusive space to discuss and better understand what I read. Other participants, who want to read more non-fiction but struggle to for one reason or another, benefit from having a schedule and the external motivation the club offers. Lastly, the club helps to round out our post-secondary education as engineers by covering the human side of engineering - the people we build things for! Please note, the club is open to anyone and the books we cover can be applied to all fields - not just engineering.

We cover non-fiction books from a diverse range of authors. I hope to see you this year at one of our meet-ups! Feel free to contact me here with any questions.
